Getting started
Do I really need to speak German to learn here?
No. We teach in German, English, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic and Berber, and plenty of our students learned with us while their German was still coming along. The theory exam itself is also offered in a number of languages — ask us which ones apply to your case.
I already have a licence from my home country. Does it count?
It depends entirely on which country issued it. Some licences can be exchanged directly, some need a practical test, and some need the full course. Bring your licence in and we'll tell you honestly which of the three you're looking at.
How do I register?
Walk into Zeppelinstraße 7 in Düsseldorf-Eller during opening hours — no appointment needed. Or fill in the online pre-registration and we'll invite you in for a proper conversation.
What is the Straßenverkehrsamt and why do I have to go there?
It's the local licensing authority. Your driving school trains and tests you, but the authority is what actually issues the licence, so the application has to come from you. If you're registered in Düsseldorf, any Bürgerbüro in the city can take it too.
Theory & tests
When are theory lessons?
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 18:00 to 19:30. The current topics and dates are always on our theory page.
How many theory sessions do I have to attend?
For Category B it's 12 core sessions plus 2 subject-specific ones. Because we run theory three nights a week, you can get through them quickly if you want to.
Where do I sit the theory exam?
At TÜV Rheinland in Düsseldorf Garath, Frankfurter Straße 201. Once you've passed our internal mock test we unlock you online, and then you can walk in any Tuesday without an appointment.
Licences
What's the difference between B and B197?
With standard Category B you take the practical test in a manual car. With B197 you take it in an automatic — far less to juggle on the day — and after extra manual training you're still licensed to drive manual cars. If you're nervous about the clutch, B197 is usually the smarter route.
Can I start before I turn 18?
Yes, through BF17. You can register from 16½ and take the practical test at 17, then drive with a registered accompanying adult until you turn 18.
Practical
I'm genuinely scared of driving. Is that a problem?
It's one of the most common things our students say, and it's in a large share of our reviews. We go at your pace, explain calmly, and build confidence in stages. Nobody here is going to shout at you.
Can I switch from another driving school?
Yes, and a lot of our students did exactly that. Bring whatever documentation you have and we'll work out what already counts and what's still missing.
What does it cost?
We go through pricing with you in person, because the honest answer depends on how many driving hours you'll need and that differs hugely between people. Come in or call and we'll give you a realistic picture rather than a number that turns out to be wrong.
